The Security Electronics Design/Build though Bouford Beatty to Southern-Folger who further sub-contracted the work to Black Creek for a GMP.
This 1240-bed women’s jail facility included 32 new buildings on a campus layout. The touch screens and video monitors were distributed throughout the direct and indirect officers’ stations and a new 2-station Center Control Room was provided. The ouch screen system was networked in a self healing fiber optic loop for the controlling and monitoring of doors, intercom & paging, CCTV surveillance television, duress alarm, and perimeter security systems. Touch screens located in housing units included control of power, lighting, inmate telephones, domestic water, and HVAC circuits. Each was interfaced to the controlled systems through a PLC system equipped with redundant processors and power supplies also on a self healing fiber optic loop around the site.
The surveillance television system consisted of 360 IP cameras networked throughout the site using Cisco PoE switches and a RAID6 recording system to provide more than a year of high resolution recording at 15 frames per second. The same self healing fiber optic loop with the microprocessor based intercom system. A combination of wall mounted and covert desk mounted duress button switches supplement an ultra sonic acoustical personal duress alarm system. The Perimeter Security system was a layered system consisting of Active Infrared zones arranged between the buildings and on top of the roofs, while a disturbance system was mounted along the wall and fence systems.
All Perimeter Security and Duress system alarm zones report to the PLC system for touch screen annunciation. An electronic key control system was provided to facilitate key management. The access control (card reader) system was on a separate fiber optic loop. All inter-building cabling is fiber optic and all security systems use high end Cisco switches to facilitate self healing loops.
All security systems are fully supported by a UPS system located in each building. All housing locks, slider doors, and kick slider doors are pneumatically controlled. All pneumatic tubing is routed in conduit separate from the cabling infrastructure.
