This 208-bed Addition, 36-bed interior renovation, and 83-bed security renovation of existing included the total replacement of all existing hard-wired relay-based control panels with a state-of-theart touch screen system to cover all existing, renovation, and expansion areas of the facility.
The new touch screen system consisted of nodes at the housing and Central Control officers’ station locations. The system was developed to facilitate transferring of operational control of all controlled system elements from the local officers’ station to the remote Central Control Room touch screen system.
Included was a complete replacement of the existing intercom and paging system with a new microprocessor based intercom system. The touch screen system was networked to a PLC system for control and monitoring of doors, intercom & paging, CCTV, and duress alarm systems.
Surveillance television was expanded to accept the new cameras and the video recording was expanded to facilitate recording of video media. The CCTV systems included both a fully networked analog CCTV system within the jail and an IP-based CCTV external to the jail as part of our renovation of the Courthouse and Emergency Operations Center.
All systems were backed up by a distributed UPS system. HK’s services were extended to include work beyond our basic Construction Administration System to include post-construction services through the warranty period.
A challenge of this project was the need for a hot cut-over from the existing system to the new system with limited interruptions in facility operations. While this is typical for HK’s projects, the fact that the existing Central Control Room and Security Electronics room was the same room and the equipment racks and control consoles were one and the same.
